A new interpretation board at the bastion

The Friends of the Bastion are delighted with the recent installation of a new interpretation board. You may have seen an interpretation board on Haslar Road – it’s still there and worth a look. The new interpretation board is INSIDE the Bastion, to encourage you to visit.

An image of the new interpretation at the Bastion, showing an impression of 19th century English and French soldiers in uniform; Neil Marshall’s impression of the Bastion; to contemporary photographs of the Bastion; a map of the Gosport Lines and some explanatory text.

The design of the new board was a result of collaboration between the Friends and Gosport Borough Council, with particular input from the Friends’ historian, Alan Petrie. Special thanks go to the reprographics office and Caroline Smith at the Town Hall and to Neil Marshall for his permission to use an image of his painting of the Bastion.
You can’t miss the new board – it will be directly ahead of you as you enter the Bastion through the main gates on Trinity Green.

An image showing the interpretation board on Haslar Road – directly opposite the exit from Walpole Car Park – it’s still there and worth a look.
